One Year Into The Mayor’s Presidency, A Series Of Investigations Into His Administration Was Launched.
Mayor Adams, the current mayor of New York city, when you take a look at his public image he comes across as a well groomed, well spoken stand up kind of guy, whom is very stern in speech and is sound in his decisions. When you take a look into his background you cant help but notice that he was a former police officer. Starting off with the City Transit Police Department, he then transitioning to the actual New York Police Department for more than twenty years, until finally retiring as Captain. The then selfless, overly ambitious retired Police Captain transitioned onto the political scene from two thousand six to two thousand thirteen as a New York State Senator, then later on in two thousand thirteen as Brooklyn’s Borough President. The very first Black American to hold that position. In two thousand thirteen, Adam’s received the Democratic Party’s nomination for Mayor of New York City after narrowly winning a crowded primary. In the general election, Adam secured a landslide victory against his opponent, Curtis Sliwa. As Mayor Of New York City, Adams his known for being tough on crime as expected because of his education and background, reintroduce a plain clothes NYPD Unit after being disbanded by previous administrations and a zero tolerance policy on homelessness especially in the subway cars which poses as a safety risk to the public.
Justice Department Are So Carefully Aligned In Their Positions That Adversarial Testing Is needed
One Count Of Conspiracy, One Count Of Wire Fraud Two Counts Of Soliciting And One Count of accepting a bribe.
One year into the Mayor’s presidency, a series of investigations into his administration was launched. Chief among those investigations, overseen by the Attorney for the southern district of New York. These investigations led to the Mayor’s twenty twenty four indictment one count of conspiracy to defraud The United States government, one count of wire fraud and two counts of soliciting campaign contributions from foreign nationals and one count of soliciting and accepting a bribe. Since the indictment there has been a slew of what appear to be forced resignation of his officials starting with Mohamed Bahi, the Mayor’s liaison to the Islamic community, resigning a day prior, was arrested and charged with witness tampering and destruction of evidence. Buildings Commissioner Eric Ulrich in twenty twenty three for an alleged bribery scheme, forcing him to leave the administration while he awaits trial in a supreme court. A set of IRS raid triggered off the resignation of Police Commissioner Edward Caban. The warrant seizure of cell phones by the FBI also led to the resignation of Deputy Mayor Philip Banks and his brother School Chancellor David C Banks. Since then Mayor Adams has pleaded not guilty and vow to fight the charges. Mayor Eric Adam will be the first Mayor in New York’s history to be charged with federal crimes while in office. Alongside his not guilty plea, he allege that these charges are in direct retaliation for opposing the Biden Administration’s handling of the migrant crisis. Even though Mayor Adams has advanced well before his time within law enforcement and transitioned seamlessly within the political arena he his no stranger to crime. Growing up in Brownsville Brooklyn while being the fourth of six children, at age fourteen Adams joined the Seven Crowns Gang and earned the reputation of being a tough little guy while holding money for local hustlers, running errand including the purchase of food supplies and managing an exotic dancer. In most recent developments, a federal Judge on Friday U.S. District Judge Dale Ho decided he would delay the New York Mayors corruption trial indefinitely before making a decision on The US Justice department’s motion to dismiss the charges. He would also select and independent lawyer Paul Clement to present arguments against the prosecutors’ bid to dismiss to help him decide. The Judge also pointed out that Adams and The Justice Department are so carefully aligned in their positions that that adversarial testing is needed to aid in his decision. The Justice Department’s decision to drop the charges prompted the resignation of several federal prosecutors, accusing the mayor of changing his stance on illegal immigration under a new Trump administration in return for legal leniency.
